Once an important seaport during the Napoleonic era, Hartlepool has since been restored to reflect its past prosperity. The Maritime Experience showcases a reconstruction of the old quayside from the era of Nelson and Napoleon, complete with chandlers, a naval tailor, and gunsmiths. The highlight of the quayside is the presence of two historic ships - the frigate HMS Trincomalee and the paddle steamer PPS Wingfield Castle. The ships offer an immersive audio/visual presentation for visitors.
