While primarily functioning as a port, Folkestone Coast is also a popular tourist destination. It boasts a variety of attractions, beautiful beaches, and a unique railway experience.
Folkestone Coast features a beach nestled within the town, accessible via a lift down a 200-foot cliff face. Though the beach is mostly a wide expanse of shingle, nearby attractions, including a large amusement park, more than make up for it.
Other beaches worth exploring include St Mary's Bay to the west, featuring a blend of sand and shingle, and a small beach overlooking East Wear Bay to the east. These areas are equipped with facilities such as shops, cafes, and a small fun fair, making them perfect for a day trip.
Folkestone is renowned as the UK end of the Channel Tunnel, with ferry links to France. An additional quirky attraction is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, one of the smallest railway lines globally. This railway has been ferrying tourists since 1927 and is still a hit, offering a unique journey on miniature steam trains across a 13-mile track.
